Scorpions are among the most feared arachnids in Mexico, and Puebla is no exception. While there are many species, not all are dangerous to humans.However, certain species carry venom strong enough to cause life-threatening symptoms, especially in children, the elderly, or those with weakened immune systems. Their venom is neurotoxic, affecting the nervous system and producing symptoms such as intense localized pain, tingling, difficulty breathing, blurred vision, muscle spasms, and in extreme cases, convulsions. Scorpions usually hide under rocks, fallen logs, piles of wood, and inside homes where they seek shelter. In rural areas, encounters are more common, and people often take preventive measures such as shaking shoes, sealing cracks in walls, and using insect screens.
